About
1958 J-35 Bonanza
My father printed black & white photos with his home made contact light box when I was just a little kid.? The smell of developer and fixer were memories of those post WW II nights when Dad was working in the ?darkroom.”? Through high school, the use of a Kodak was limited because of film and processing costs.? In college my friend Eric, who I have known since kindergarten, went to Germany for his freshman year bringing home an Exakta camera ? and let me use the camera that next year.? With the use of the biology department?s darkroom at off hours, I printed black & white photos Eric had taken in Germany. Needing to support college expenses I did freelance news photography, year book, college newspaper, biology department and weddings photography. Using borrowed cameras (Exakta, Nikon, and Leica M1) through college, I was able to order my first camera from Hong Kong on graduation ? an Asahi Pentax SV for $98.? Fostering my interest in photography, my father-in-law purchased a complete darkroom for me.? Moving to Nordland a few years later, the darkroom equipment stayed in storage for some years ? until grandchild #1 came along.? Digital cameras and computers made photography affordable and the transition from black & white film brought new possibilities viewing my places.? Black & white photography consists of all those tones from pure white to absolute black.? The depth and richness of a good contrast black & white photograph is stunning!? So here on the site are a few black & white images and also color views of my world though my Carl Zeiss lens.
